Dr. Yan Jin is Professor and Associate Chair of Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at University of Southern California and Director of USC IMPACT Laboratory. He received his PhD degree from the University of Tokyo and did his Postdoc research at Stanford University. His current research interests include design cognition and methods, machine learning and its applications in engineering design, knowledge capturing, complexity and self-organizing adaptive systems. Dr. Jin is a recipient of National Science Foundation CAREER Award (1998), TRW Excellence in Teaching Award (2001), Best Paper in Human Information Systems (5th World Multi-Conference on Systemics, 2001), Xerox Best Paper Award (DETC/DTM 2002), and ASME DTM Best Paper Award (DETC/DTM 2021). He served as Chair of Honors & Awards of ASME’s Design Engineering Division, Vice Chair of ASME Design Theory and Methodology (DTM) Technical Committee (2003), DTM Conference Chair (2005) and Program Chair (2004). He was the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing (AIEDAM) (2012-2017), Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Mechanical Design (2005-2012). He is currently Associate Editor of journal of Design Science, and Editorial Board Member of international journals of AIEDAM, Advanced Engineering Informatics, and Design Creativity and Innovation. Dr. Jin was a UPS Foundation Visiting Professor at Stanford University (2004-2006), a Guest Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2011-2014), and a Senior Engineer (adjunct) at RAND Corporation (2009- 2013). Dr. Jin is a Fellow of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2010).
